2012 Optional Pre-conference Workshops
Pre-conference workshops are held on Sunday, July 15, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at The Peabody Memphis. Lunch is included for both sessions at 12:00 p.m. Workshops are limited to the first 25 registrants.

1:1 101 - $150.00This in-depth workshop is intended for teachers (maximum of 25) who are new to teaching in a one-to-one classroom. Lead by a team of seasoned one-to-one teachers from a variety of grade levels and disciplines, this workshop will give you the framework you need to begin asking the right questions during the Laptop Institute. Attendees will be given practical advice, instruction, and techniques in a hands-on approach.
- One-to-One Planning Boot Camp - $150.00
This high energy, intense and strangely fun session will cover all of the major areas of critical planning for a successful one-to-one program in one day. You will come away with plans, time lines, policies, work flow designs, lesson ideas and communication strategies. This is not for the faint of heart. Plenty of carbs should be consumed the day before this session!
- One-to-One for Everyone: Integration Ideas Across the Disciplines - $150.00
One-to-One is a funny thing. It tends to highlight differences in teaching philosophy across different departments in your school. That can be a good thing! It helps you hone your efforts to improve student learning. This session will cover various tools and strategies to advance your one-to-one in every department. We will cover powerful lesson ideas across all disciplines, including religion and P.E. and focus on grades 6-12. Come with your questions and ideas. This session will also serve as a wonderful learning community to solve problems and develop new specific strategies.

- Building Powerful Human Networks - $150.00
Who has time to research every new thing out there? How can you keep up with all the change and new ideas in education and technology? Make tech work for you! In this session, you will learn about great resources but, more importantly, you will learn how to organize those resources and bring them to you via rss, social media aggregators and other cool tools. Building professional learning networks (PLNs) connects you to the people who are "in the know." You will learn who some of these people are, how to connect with them and how to contribute your wisdom. You will also get a great list of resources and online communities to support teachers across all disciplines.
- Global Education and Collaboration - $150.00 (Afternoon Session Only)
Global education and collaboration are more critical than ever for students as they use 21st century skills to learn. Join us as we share experiences, successful projects, online resources, implications, ideas, and instructional strategies. We will brainstorm and design educational projects in which students connect and collaborate globally for relationship-building and cultural understanding. Through meaningful learning opportunities such as Challenge Based Learning and with the utilization of technology, students really can take action and work together to make a difference in the world. In this workshop, we will plan projects that we can then implement in our schools or learning communities.
CEU Credits - $40.00
The Lausanne Laptop Institute has partnered with the Continuing Education Department at the University of Memphis. We will provide those who register and attend sessions the appropriate amount of CEU credits and documentation. 1.0 credits will be awarded to those attending the main conference, while 1.3 or 1.6 will be awarded to those attending both the preconference and the main conference.
